Tennyson Street Jams Starting May 7th

Hello! We’ll be starting our 5th year at Chavez Park in a couple of weeks.  Come pick under the pines with us, the 1st and 3rd Sunday each month.  Our session runs noon til 2pm.  Our first dates for 2017 are May 7th and 21st.  The full schedule for 2017 is here.

Beginners and kids are always welcome!  Many of our common tunes are in Bert Casey’s Bluegrass Fakebook.  If you’re looking for a book, that’s a good one.

On the off weeks, be sure to check out the South Pearl jam at Cameron Church (2nd/4th Sundays, 11am-1pm).

And don’t forget, May 21st is also the “Denver’s Largest Bluegrass Jam” event at Cameron church.  We will hold the regular jam up here at Chavez for anyone in the neighborhood that day, but I definitely encourage you to check out the big Cameron jam if you can.  It’s going to be a great event.

Thanks to Gil and Catherine for keeping the music flowing!

See You In May…

As cold weather is upon us, we’re all doing warm stuff indoors and picking at other jams around town.  We’ll kick off our 5th season of Chavez Park jams in May 2017, and will follow the same schedule.  (1st/3rd Sundays, noon til 2).  If you’d like an email reminder when we start again, be sure you’re on our email list:  http://tinyletter.com/tennysonbluegrass

This is pretty slow tune, but the video shows a typical group & instrument representation. Don’t This Road Look Rough and Rocky: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TX8L9rRa_J4

Bluegrass / Old-Time Jam This Sunday – Sept. 4th

Labor Day is upon us, and so is our 1st Sunday park jam. Maybe Robyn will lead us in Union Maid, hm?

Last week, my wife was at Chavez Park with our girls, and one of the other parents randomly said to her “Did you know there’s a musical group that plays here on Sundays? They’re amazing.”

Pretty cool.

My Sunday forecast says sunny & 84. Sweet! Join us this Sunday, under the pine trees at Chavez Park (41st & Tennyson Street) this Sunday, September 4th, from noon ’til 2pm.IMG_0042

And, our final jam for 2016 will be Sunday, September 18. Be sure to check with Gil if you want to be emailed about the Whole Foods winter jam rotation. I will include info here as well.

The images in this email are original paintings by my awesome neighbor Fran Schroeder, and inspired by this very group! Check out more of her work at http://www.franschroeder.com

Sunday 8/21: Bluegrass and Old-Time Jam at Chavez Park

Happy Thursday!  Join us this weekend, for one of the final park jams this season.  We will be playing under the pine trees at Chavez Park (41st & Tennyson Street) this Sunday, August 21st, from noon ’til 2pm.
Looks like rain on Saturday, and excellent weather on Sunday.  Perfect!

Our dates for the rest of this season are:

  • August 21 (this Sunday)
  • September 4
  • September 18

And, in case you aren’t on Gil’s list, here’s his note about Pickin’ in the Pines at the end of the month.  Should be a great time.

I would like to invite you jammers to a wonderful jam event called Pickin in the Pines.  It’s near Elizabeth, Colorado, just a short drive from Denver.  It is a 4 day event from August 25-28th and is basically a 4 day jam!  For more information check it out at   http://www.coloradobluegrass.org/pickin-in-the-pines .  Cathy Teusch and Cameron Church has invited us all to a picnic that weekend to play our stuff (Sunday, August 28th at 5pm) which should be a wonderful time.  There should not be a conflict if you go for the 1st few days (or just one day) of Pickin in the Pines and leave that Saturday night or early Sunday morning.  Cathy informs me that there will not be a jam at the Church that day, but will take place later in the day at the picnic starting at 5pm instead, giving you plenty of time to get back.

Bluegrass & Old-Time Jam on Tennyson – This Sunday (6/19)

Hi, park pickin’ friends – We’ll have a group jam in the park this Sunday, from noon ’til 2pm.

It was great to see some new players there last time! If you haven’t joined us before, we meet at Chavez Park, under the pine trees (near 41st and Tennyson St. in NW Denver). Bring a chair, if you have one.

Many of the common songs in our group can be found in this fine tome, the Bluegrass Fakebook: https://amzn.com/1893907376

Be sure to check out the Cameron Park jams (2nd/4th Sundays from 11-1, and also every Tuesday evening at 7pm). 1600 S. Pearl is the address.

Hope you can join us this weekend!
